When the client is a Japanese fish waffle and ice cream store, you (correctly) assume that fine detail and precise aesthetics are going to be high on the agenda. Located in London’s Chinatown, it’s also going to have a lot of competition, so making the place authentic and enticing was also part of the brief from architects Holland Harvey.
Taking inspiration from the traditional Japanese wood carving technique called Naguri, we made bespoke panels using a CNC machine, then covered it in latex to form the actual mould. Multiple sections make up the counter fronts, in a soft oat colour to contrast with the navy woodwork and wall art.
